This American-born rapper started his career from the street, where he began performing at clubs with his own songs and lyrics. Keenon Daequan Ray Jackson’s may be, as labelled by GQ, the flyest rapper in the world. And he’ll be bringing his best act this Saturday, February 23rd, 2019 at Ecopark, Ancol for FutuRepublic.
Originally from Campton, California, YG is actually short for “Young Gangsta”, referring to him joining the Bloods gang back in 2006 when he was just 16. Turning 19, YG released his debut single, “Toot It and Boot It” featuring Ty Dolla Sign. The song got number 67 on the Billboard Hot 100, which led him for a sign record with Def Jam Recordings, producing many mixtapes like The Real 4Fingaz, Just Re’d Up, Just Re’d Up 2, 4 Hunnid Degreez, and many others.
Jackson signed a deal to Young Jeezy’s imprint CTE World in 2013 with single, My Nigga–later edited as My Hitta, featured Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan, blasted off to number 19 on US Billboard hot 100 and awarded in the BET Hip Hop Award for Best Collabo in 2014. His My Krazy Life album debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and was certified Platinum by Recording Industry Association of America in 2017.
A year later, the Compton Rapper is firing back his red color on a new album, Stay Dangerous. Stay Dangerous is a phrase that is often said within the gang culture in LA, which actually means be safe. As a rapper, YG’s special force lies in his own range in the way of flows, moods, and ethics. He’s not afraid to play the hard moralist, the bully and the classic remark through all of his songs. This time, his lyrics are all about the process of his revival and the stories of the streets that raised him into the person he has become. Keeping his lyrics as straightforward as he sounds, his music talks about his street life, his family, his sex life, all the way to the stories behind his success.
YG commences his Stay Dangerous Tour in Canada on January 17th, and planned to visit North America, Europe, and Australia in the span of three months. 2018 became a big year for YG as he launched his Stay Dangerous album and performed at Coachella with Cardi B and Chance The Rapper. Announcing this year’s lineups, YG will be performing at the 20th edition of Coachella alongside Ariana Grande, Childish Gambino, and Tame Impala.
To GQ, YG explained about his label 4Hunnid, a line of reasonably priced sportswear in a YG-approved palette.
“If I want the world to support the brand and put it in a certain light that we’re going for, they have to respect my fashion sense and taste and all that. My taste, what I’m into, what I feel like is cool: I need the fashion world, and just the majority of the world, to be like, ‘Yeah, YG got it. He strappin’ that. He on some shit.’ ”
Another thing to add to this Red reebok’s fans, YG will perform in the first music festival organized by The F Thing, FutuRepublic this Saturday, February 23rd, 2019 at Ecopark, Ancol.
