After hiatus for a year, Blackpink has released their new most anticipated EP, Square Up on June 15th 2018. And it left the world shock! Why is that? The 2 year-old group keeps making records left and right ever since they dropped the mini album.
For a starter, Blackpink is a K-Pop group, who share the same entertainment house with other big names, such as BigBang and 2NE1. The girl group made their debut on August 8th 2016 and became a best rookie group and snatched music awards in Korea, in the same year. They instantly turned to be everyone’s favorite.
Blackpink consist of four young and talented girls; Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa. All of them trained for years before they set to debut. Their debut single, Whistle, ranked #1 in various Korean music chart for weeks. Alongside their Korean fanbase, Blackpink also spread their International fanbase as three of them speak English fluently.
Now they are back with their mini album and they instantly made a history as the highest charting K-Pop girl group ever on both the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 charts with their single Ddu-du Ddu-du. It is the first time a Korean girl group has landed on the rank #55 on Hot 100 since 2009, while the album Square Up debuted at #44 on Billboard 200 charts. Also, their Ddu-du Ddu-du music video reached 100 millions viewers in 10 days and it made them the fastest K-pop girl group to do so.
The group got popular throughout the globe and recently got a called from USA record companies, but the girls wanted to focus on Korea promotion first before expanding their legacy. YG Entertainment also teased that Blackpink would likely release more song in few month. Watch out, Blackpink will dominate your area for sure!
