Barney is Closing Down, So Does House of Z

Young, talented and extravagant are 3 words we can use to describe fashion designer Zac Posen.

For those who don’t know him, he is an American fashion designer named Zachaery E. Posen living in New York City. You might also see him at Project Runway. Last week, he announced the decision to shutter his namesake label “House of Z” due to the inability to find investors. It is said that the difficulties of fashion industry such as ever-changing fashion landscape and failed to secure a sale might also be the reason why.
After nearly two-decades of beautiful creations “the time” apparently ran out. The 39-year-old designer have worked tirelessly while creating 14 collections each year for his signature label, ZAC Zac Posen, also Brooks Brothers. You can also see his custom designs on red carpet for the Oscars, Met Gala and many more. He dresses all the A-listers you could name: Rihanna, Katie Holmes, Heidi Klum and the iconic Cinderella dress with lights worn by Claire Danes at 2016 Met Gala.

Since the last few years some sponsors have stop sending their support and causes him to walked away from runway and presented his clothes on model in his showroom. This is the common moves by high-end brand but doesn’t necessarily mean a bad thing.
Is this a sign that fashion may be facing its apocalypse? While brands are competing about who is better at sustainability and handling global warming, a recent article suggest that “sustainability” might just be a marketing strategy. Nonetheless this also drives certain customers away from fashion, some are buying less or maybe recycle altogether. But it doesn’t mean luxury street-wear are out of attentions. The blossoming of street-wear are currently unstoppable and provide a small chance of stepping back.
Not only high-end brands but retails such as Forever 21 and luxury department store such as Barneys New York are filing for bankruptcies. Now that Barneys are bought by Authenthic Brands Group, it’s still mystery how the store will end up.
What are your thoughts? Are fashion maybe going out of style?
