Writing his own songs, most of his singles are talking about love and significant other, but this time Ben is widening up his spectrum to another area.
The song has been written since three years ago, but only few months ago that Ben felt like the right time to release Wajah Cerita. To push the message behind the song, Ben made many people gasped by his naked pose for the single’s artwork.
After doing some love songs, you returned with a new song, can you tell us more about Wajah Cerita?
“This song is produced by Petra and me, I wrote the lyrics three years ago and at that time, I was on my lowest point ever. I believe that life is like a wheel, after three years now, I feel like I’m on that stage again and I think it’s time to release the song. The theme of the song is about life and its perspective, we’re often caught up in minding people’s business instead of our own. That’s what this song is about, to respect one another.”
What kind of message do you want to convey to the listeners?
“There are a lot of messages. First, I’d like to remind everyone that wherever we might be in life, the most important thing is how we perceive ourselves because you won’t be on top forever.”
“Also, in related to the nude artwork that I did, I’d like people to be honest to themselves. Don’t hide anything just for the sake of getting accepted by others. More often than not, we lie to ourselves, which would result in a negative impact in return.”
Apart from the controversial artwork, you’re known for your style. From thrift shopping with us, to a collab with our in-house brand LEGITEAMATE, to your outfit on stage.
“When I’m doing a gig, I prefer to wear comfortable outfits more than the trendy ones. For me, no matter how much I like fashion, my relationship with music is more personal and more calm. So whenever I’m on stage, I tend to be more simple and wear comfy clothes. On daily basis though, I like to wear clothes that attract people’s attention, I’m also not ashamed of buying girls’ clothes at the mall, if it looks good on me, why not?”
Any routine before going on stage? What’s your favorite item to wear on stage?
“I always drink local herbal medicine tolak angin before going on stage, it calms me down and good for the throat. And I always wear sunglasses, never skipped an event without one.”
“I’ve been releasing singles all this time, so my goal for this year is to launch an album—I’m currently preparing one. In this album, I also will collaborate with fellow musicians, I actually already have some names in mind, but not with someone I recently collaborated with though.”
