Bicara Perempuan dan Body Positivity dengan Carla Yules

Miss Indonesia 2020 Februari lalu has officially chosen Pricilia Carla Yules, Miss Sulawesi Selatan, sebagai pemenangnya. Mahasiswi lulusan jurusan kuliner dari William Angliss Institute jurusan Hospitality Management – Patisserie pada 2018 di Australia sebelum menjalani karir sebagai beauty pageant.

The 23-year-old Surabayan-born represented South Sulawesi in Miss Indonesia, succesfully surpassing the other top 4 finalists from Bangka Belitung, North Sumatra, Jambi, and East Nusa Tenggara. Dan nantinya, anak ketiga dari empat bersaudara ini juga akan mewakili Indonesia di ajang internasional.

Carla juga dikenal aktif dalam kegiatan sosial, menjadi relawan yang bertugas memasak dan melayani tempat penampungan tunawisma di Melbourne pada tahun 2016 lalu. Throughout her tenure in Miss Indonesia 2020, Carla dengan bangga mempromosikan keindahan alam, warisan budaya, makanan, dan satwa dari Sulawesi Selatan. 
Dalam situs resmi Miss Indonesia, Carla juga mengungkapkan ketertarikannya terhadap pemberdayaan perempuan, “Saya ingin mendorong perempuan untuk memiliki kepercayaan diri dan menerima diri mereka apa adanya.” As a representative of a beauty pageant, Carla discussed with Letter F regarding body positivity and women empowerment.
Interesting take on women empowerment. Could you further share us your definition of it.

In my opinion, women empowerment is not just about men or women—equality per se, but it’s wider than that. Essentially, it’s about being supportive with fellow women. To support one another, to empower each other and to always have each other’s back.”

We see that you also have a positive outlook towards body positivity. And with the rise of digital age and easy access towards any info, seems like there’s a new physical standards. Do you have any advices for kids out there?

“First and foremost, before anything else, you really have to love yourself. Give that affection to yourself, you own that to yourself. You have to find the point where you have to love yourself first. When you love yourself first, only then you can love others better.”

Sebagai pemenang dari Miss Indonesia 2020, kamu pasti belajar banyak definisi perempuan kuat. Menurut kamu sendiri apa aspek itu? And is being Miss Indonesia your proudest career moment so far?

“I believe there are three main words: dedication, integrity and compassion. Yes, so for, being crowned as Miss Indonesia 2020 is my proudest moment so far. And I will continue to expand my horizon in terms of achieving for greater things and I believe God has prepared me with a lot of brighter things ahead.”
