From Chocolate to Avocado – Enjoy These Endangered Foods before They’re Gone

Global climate change affects our favorite munchies! Some of the world’s most delicious dishes (well, at least for some of us) will be extinct in the future. So…enjoy it, while we can? Here’s the list:

  • Avocado
The Mexican fruit is in danger due to unstoppable demand of guacamole and other Mexican fruit (yea, who can resist those guilty pleasure, anyway?). The problem is, one piece of avocado needs 72 gallons of water to ripe – while the farms in Central Mexico are facing deforestation.
  • Chocolate

All the sweet-toothed people in the world, you may scream now. Cacao plants need a specific condition to be able to grow especially in terms of temperature. Centro Internacional de Agricultura Tropical has predicted that massive decline in chocolate production will occur in 2030.
  • Strawberry

Oh shoot. Strawberries, too? Yep, according to the International Society for Horticultural Science, the unstable weather has created very short farming cycle for the berries in Florida (a.k.a, the strawberry capital of the world). The temperature has gone hotter, a premonition of permanent decline in strawberry production in the future.
