The emergence of new talents is something consistent in every business, including in the film industry. The young talent Arya Vasco is one of the many young stars who are ready to explore the acting world.
The 19-year-old actor who was born in Denpasar began his career through My Generation directed by Upi, and afterwards in other movies Menunggu Pagi, Tembang Lingsir, and in April 2019, Vasco starred in a horror movie called Sunyi. The movie was adapted from the best-selling South Korean horror movie Whispering Corridors. Vasco also shared that he has just finished filming a new series by iflix.
Among all the movies you’ve starred in, which one is the most meaningful to you?
“The most meaningful has got to be the first movie I have ever starred in, My Generation. It’s also the most changing for me. Since it’s the first experience of starring in a movie, it was the first thing that introduced me to the entertainment industry. Not only it opens more chances for me to star in other movies, it was also a very great movie in terms of quality and how I star the movie along with big name actors, so it was quiet meaningful for me personally.”
Playing as Konji, Rico, Doni, Andre, and Ara in various movies, who’s your fave character among all?
“Andre in Sunyi, I played as a bully and also the character in the iflix series as Ara, I can relate to him in some ways from age, personality, the way I treat my friends, or how I treat girls in general, we’re the same.”
Personally, do you prefer to star in drama or horror movies?
“To be honest, I like dramas. I took the part in a horror movie because I see the demands in the genre is pretty high, although filming wise, it’s a bit tiring since the shoot mostly takes up at night.”
If you could choose one director and one actor to work with, who would that be?
“If we’re speaking realistically, the director that I wanted to work with was Upi, which I already starred in her movie, so checked. Another is Joko Anwar. Those are the local directors whom I dream to work with. Also, to star in a Martin Scorcese’s movie is one of the dreams. Actors, I’d love to act alongside Fachry Albar and Maudy Ayunda.”
What do you wish to explore in the future?
“I think I’d like to improve my acting skill. Eventhough maybe I’ll act for another 20 years, I’d still think that I need to keep improving my skill. New actors and actresses sometimes only go for fame, money, or being artsy, for me, personally, I really want to improve my acting. Would be great to be nominated in a movie award like FFI.”
