What’s a Flexitarian Diet? It’s created by dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner to help people reap the benefits of vegetarianism, while still enjoying animal products moderately.
As we know, vegetarian diet eliminates meat and sometimes other animal-based food, while vegans restrict meat, fish, eggs, dairy and all animal-derived products. Flexitarian, on the othher hand, is considered more as a lifestyle than a diet since it has no clear-cut rules or recommended number of calories and macronutrients.
Flexitarian will eat mostly fruits, vegetables, legumes and whole grains. They focus on protein from plants instead of animals. They consume meat and animal products from time to time. Extra sugar and sweets are being limited. Not that this is the best lifestyle, since some people on diet may need to eat more animal products than others. Overall, the goal is to eat more nutritious plant foods and less meat and it lets you enjoy the best of both veggie and meat world.
By doing this lifestyle, you will enjoy a decrease in chances of getting heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and of course, weight loss. Wanna give it a try?
