If there’s one trend that never goes out of style, look no further than preppy look. Simply because it’s actually not a phase to be fallen in and out of fashion world, but simple a versatility amongst the uni students. How did it all begin though?
Based on Wikipedia, preppy or prep refers to:
“A subculture in the United States associated with the old private Northeastern university-preparatory schools. The terms are used to denote a person seen as characteristic of a student or alumnus of these schools. Prep has become a colloquialism in the United States and has largely replaced preppy in modern usage.”
Loosely translated into fashion department, preppy look has its roots in the Ivy League style of dress. This started around 1912 and became a la mode world wide in the late 1950s. Such look sported by students in Harvard, Princeton, and Yale were copied by a lot of fashion enthusiasts. It even related to activities the likes of polo, sailing, hunting, fencing, crew rowing, lacrosse, golf, tennis, rugby, squash, and swimming. All of which are the major achievements to be chased should you are the students of Ivy League.
