“Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don’t turn up at all.”
Just like William Ernest Silanoe aka Ernest, one of the most hard working people you’ve ever met. Graduating from Prasetya Mulya Business School, Ernest tried his luck by being an event organizer for any kind of parties. All the achievements has paved his way to be who he is today: the CMO of the Broadway Group.
Continues making a headway, Ernest is all about sharing his knowledge to others about his experience in the EO business and F&B industry. Currently working on his first book about event organizing, Ernest is also a spreading out his knowledge through classes at few universities where he usually teaches.
As an entrepreneur, what kind of business do you do?
“So I’m handling Broadway Group Jakarta, it’s a holding company that manage some businesses: F&B, hospitality, and agency.”
Tell us the journey about Broadway Group Jakarta.
“We began our journey as an event organizer, for events like prom nights, birthdays, to many others. After working in the EO filed for quite some time, we thought to ourselves why not turn our business as a holding company—Broadway Group.”
What kind of business does Broadway Group do?
“We’re doing three business units under Broadway Group: F&B, hospitality, and agency. For F&B, we have Ms. Jackson and Lei Lo—bringing two different concepts, Ms. Jackson is a live music and bar, while Lei Lo is a Chinese restaurant. Apart from the F&B business, we’ve also dipped ourselves into the hospitality business with Cabana Surf & Stay in Krui, Lampung—a home to many surfers from all over the world. Lastly, we have an agency called Quarter Back, the one that handles our clients and taking care of the businesses under the Broadway Group.”
From organizing events to setting up an F&B outlet, how did the transition go?
“As an event organizer, I got to know a lot of different people from different background, F&B included. I learned how the F&B business works and that’s when I realized to open up an F&B business. And so in 2017, my team and I started to brainstorm and drafted our business concept. A year later, Ms.Jackson was born, followed by Lei Lo at the end of the year. But prior to that, we already had our coffee shop called Kopi Senayan and also Beer Me Up! at the Equity Tower in 2015.”
What is your next plans for the Broadway Group?
“We’ve been making our plans for the short-term and long-term goals. Within 3 to 5 years in the future, we’d like to open more outlets in Jakarta and would love to expand to Bali. Long term wise, we’d like to grow our company to become an IPO.”
