Jenna Kaia’s Lira Krisnalisa

Who says that hijab women can’t have their own fashion style that is just equally à la mode? Jenna & Kaia proved it right, this local brand that officially launched three years ago is beaming with their modest yet stylish cutting, and in doing so Jenna Kaia still manages to be au courant (that’s a French for up to date, by the way).

Inspired by the dynamic lifestyle of urban women, Jenna & Kaia’s collection is comfortably chic. Bringing the sense of modern silhouette through the magic hands of Krisnalisa as the Creative Director of the brand, Jenna & Kaia has released a collection of blouse, tunic, outer, skirt, pants, and so on.

It’s only been three years since the brand was first founded, yet it has skyrocketed already, how did it all begin?
“It all happened after I decided to become a housewife. I used to work at a national company for years before I decided to divert my full focus to my kids. During the spare time, I gradually found my old passion: exploring fashion. Like every other woman, I’m always thinking on what to wear, so I decided why not make my own. As I’ve never been in touched with fashion business before, I got to learn a lot of things by doing and by taking some courses—until the brand happened. I used to do every single thing by myself, but now as Jenna & Kaia has grown so much bigger than I thought it would be, I have my own team.”
Jenna Kaia sounded so charming and lovely, what’s the meaning behind the name?
“Both are taken from my daughter’s names, Jenna means heaven and Kaia means earth, so basically the philosophy for the names are happiness on earth and in heaven. I chose my daughters’ names for the brand because I believe their names would bring me luck.”
How do you describe Jenna & Kaia’s style?
“Basically it is made for the urban women with our own characteristics such as loose silhouettes, asymmetrical cuts, and soft shades colors with little touch of quirkiness but still in modesty. We’d like to give extra details that is new and fresh for our collection so they add more sparks to our clothes.”

The brand also made its way to Russia and Japan, congrats!

“I was asked by Ministry of Cooperative and SMEs to open a booth in Japan back in 2017, I was also offered to join the fashion show. It was definitely the turning point as our brand got acknowledged. Same case also in Moscow, got asked to open a booth to showcase our Batik collection called Archipelago, so everything was just meant to be.”

As an entrepreneur, what was the biggest challenge you’ve been through and how did you deal with it?
“It’s obvious that when you’re handling a business you will face a roller coaster ride, you will be thrown to the ground and rise from below—I’ve been scammed and been through few failures along the way. But after three years of ups and downs, I’ve found my ground now.”
A mother of two daughters, but also a business woman. How do you divide your time table?
“I’m playing my role as a mother in the morning, from preparing breakfast to dropping them off to school. I’m completely aware that this job is my side job after being a mother, I need to be responsible in both tasks, so I decided to have my office right across my house, just so I can watch them over at the same time.”
What’s your fashion essentials?
“Definitely shirt and jeans, that’s the first. Also, a bag, an outer, and flat shoes.”
Any tips for young entrepreneurs out there?
“The main thing that you need to do is to not giving up easily, be optimistic to tackle various obstacles ahead. Never stop learning and never get easily satisfied.”
