Museums to Visit during Commemorate Independence Day

Indonesia declared its Independence Day from the colony on bright Friday, August 17, 1945. Now that we already in our 73 years of independence, we are still reminiscing the struggle of our heroes to reach the freedom. Sure we learned it all from our text book history at school, but it will be more interesting when you come to the museum and experience the visualization yourself. Here’s four museums to visit to commemorate Indonesia’s Independence Day!

Monumen Nasional (Monas)

It’s widely-known that Tugu Monas is a memorial site when it comes to Independence Day. Inside the museum, you’ll find 51 dioramas about the history of independence to another struggle after glory days. You can also see the original text of proclamation and hear the voice recording of Bung Karno when he claimed the freedom.

Tugu Proklamasi

Located in the heart of Jakarta, this site was once President Soekarno’s house where he and Mohammad Hatta read the text of independence proclamation. You can find Bung Karno and Bung Hattas’s big statue as they were the first president and vice president of Indonesia.

Museum Perumusan Naskah Proklamasi

This was the house of Admiral Maeda, then switched its function as a building where The Proclamators and other high-ups making the script of proclamation text. The museum was opened in 1992 and you can find four important rooms during the during independence era.

Museum Kebangkitan Nasional

The museum was originally a medical school for Indonesian during colonial times. Then after years of the Independence Day, the school was turned into a museum where you can find more than 2,000 collections during the colonial period. Plus, the classrooms diorama describes student with traditional clothing in a cool way.
