His name might still sound unfamiliar to your ears – but soon, and very soon indeed, his name is getting the recognition it deserves. Ilonk Sarizqi is the young fashion stylist who already handled many top celebrities in Indonesia. Besides, he is also a professional personal shopper and a creative designer for some brands. Quite a job, eh? Last week Letter F had the special encounter with him and we got to talk about his life and his passion in fashion.
Tell us about your journey in this fashion styling scene?
“I started it all in the last 2014. I was just graduated by then. But I actually took Creative Design major before I finally swerved to fashion styling. I love to sketch and draw since I was young, but my parents – especially my father, weren’t impressed with it, thus they didn’t really support me. But I proved them wrong by winning the first place at a fashion design competition in Senayan City few years ago. I tried to show them that I had this big passion in fashion. And finally, my father signed me for a Fashion Design study. But as the time passed by, I was more interested in fashion styling. So, here I am.
What’s on your mind whenever you have to style up your client?
“First thing first, I will study the image or fashion reference from my clients. Because I honestly think that being a fashion stylist, I have the power to build their images. I was like take a red thread from the style of celeb herself and their real character. I adjusted their images and personality with the attire that I choose for them.”
Can you mention the celebs that usually book you as their fashion stylist?
“I lately styled up Jessica Mila. But I worked for Ririn Ekawati, Rini Yulianti, and the phenomenal mother-daughter, Ashanti and Aurel.”
Do you have one essential stuff that you always put to your client?
“I don’t particularly have an essential stuff for every style, but I always put an edgy-yet-chic style for them.”
What do you think about fashion trend these days then?
“If I could be honest, there are a lot of type of fashion trends. Starting from the unusual one to the minimalist one. It depends with the celebs or client who I had to style up. If they love to look a bit different from others, I’d follow their wish. And from my point of view, there are a lot of celebs who have better styles after they hired fashion stylist. Not to brag about it but their styles develop into fashion these days. But, one thing for sure, I never force a style to my client if they didn’t feel it.”
What trend that will be in and out in 2018, according to you?
“Absolutely bomber jacket with more puffy look will be the ‘it’ trend! Lotsa celebs abroad wear them. Too bad with our country’s hot weather, it won’t be that booming here. But I predict new colors and pattern, perhaps? While for the drop-out trend will be over-layered shirt.”
Describe your style in three words?
“Oh, that’s simple. Edgy, chic. And a little bit grunge.”
If you could be a fashion stylist for Hollywood celebs, who would that be?
“I don’t know but Rihanna. Because, duh, she is the Rihanna. Then maybe Beyoncé, because she is a queen bee. And hopefully Kendall Jenner because she is the rising supermodel – and a part of Kardashian-Jenner clan. I kind of believe that if people had a deal with Kardashian-Jenner fams, they would be put into a spotlight (laugh).”
Give us your favorite fashion quotes.
“This is actually from Indonesian phrase, ‘Kalau tidak mampu jangan dipaksakan’. It’s sort of fitting the whole situation nowadays.”
Share a little advice for people out there that wanted to be like you.
“I actually still learn for here and there, and I’m afraid I’d look a little bit arrogant when I give out an advice. But dear, keep doing your things and learn a lot from other people. Don’t hesitate to ask to the senior for a better act. It’s never wrong to ask people’s opinion for a little thing in life.”
