The film Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku or Memories of My Body is officially chosen to represent Indonesia at the Oscar 2020. This film by Garin Nugroho will compete in the International Feature Film Award category or formerly known as Foreign Language Film.
Beforehand, the Indonesian Film Selection Committee, chaired by Christine Hakim, had screened Indonesian films into three shortlist. In addition to Kucumbu Body Indahku, there is also Ave Maryam by Robby Ertanto and 27 Steps of May by director Ravi Bharwani. Thus KucumbuTubuh Indaku will compete with Parasite from South Korea and Weathering with You from Japan.
This is not the first time Indonesia had successfully sent local movie to the Academy Awards. On the previous year, Indonesia has sent Marlina, Si Pembunuh dalam Empat Babak, however the movie by Mouly Surya failed to present at the final stages of the Foreign Language Film selection.
