The VJ slash actor started off his career in 2009 through HighEnd Teen’s Starteen modeling competition. Boy then moved to be a presenter and tried out as a VJ for MTV. Let’s just say the 25-year-old guy knows how to work the camera as well as the audience. Not only working his career up as a presenter, but Boy also explores his skill as an actor and rapper. Boy already got 10 movies under his belt, plus he just released a very catchy rap song Flyin’ Money. Adding to the list is being the streetwear icon for LEGITEAMATE.
Straight to the point, style wise – how would you describe yours?
“To be honest, I don’t have any particular style. And to be honest, I don’t care about fashion at all. I’m super simple man who often wears jogger, jacket and shoes. For me, everyday is a casual day. I’m not that kind of fashionable guy.”
“Let me put it in a simpler way, if I happen to like one jacket or t-shirt, I’ll wear it continuously until I’m bored.”
“I ain’t even feel ashamed because there are a lot of boys who dress up like me. If I attend a formal event, I’m probably gonna wear a neat style like suit, trousers and Oxford shoes. But remembering that the circumstance doesn’t happen everyday, I rock casual style way too much in every day style. And I think man is easier (if they) wear that kind of style. I even have 5 pair of jeans which I love and always wear. The same thing applies on my t-shirts.”
How about your must-have items in your wardrobe?
“Hmm jogger and jacket, I think. Yeah, it pretty much sums up my wardrobe.”
What is the one thing that you look in a fashion brand and make you want to but it?
“What makes me wanna buy something is when I see someone else wearing it and it looks cool, then I fall in love with that thing, I’m gonna buy it for sure.”
“I don’t easily get tricked by the latest trend or something. For example, if one apparel is high-branded, expensive and trending everywhere, but if I don’t get the chemistry, I won’t buy it. Let’s say, that one thing that it has to have is the chemistry with the apparel. So I don’t have any specific reason to buy clothes, unless that is the shirt – I’d 100% purchase it.”
In your opinion, what is the meaning of street style?
“For me, street has a literal meaning for people’s fashion in the street. They look edgy and most of them minding their own business – just like rappers. In my honest opinion, two artists that owning their street style freely are Chris Brown and G-Dragon. I think they emphasize the true meaning of street style. I consider street style is simply your cool attire when you hit the street. They don’t even try hard to look cool.”
As a musician, what is your future plan?
“I’m just basically a VJ who does rap music. Flyin’ Money is my first attempt ever to rap. Yet, I wrote the whole song by myself, and my friend composed the music. So I ain’t a rapper, I just like to rap. I have no any intention to continue my career in rap music. Back in school, I liked to imitate rappers how to rap. Hence, I listen to Eminem, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, and Nelly Furtado a lot – in fact, I learned it from them. The thing is I will make rap music, like composing and writing the lyrics but I’m not a rapper. My future plan is to become a businessman who does music.”
