Talk like a true movie aficionado on your next social event – even though you didn’t watch the show yourself (and didn’t have the time to watch the whole of it anyway- duh!). Here’s your 90th Academy Awards’ quick recap.
The host of the night, Jimmy Kimmel, opened the show by talking about the #MeToo movements and Times Up campaign on his monologue. The 50-year-old host also mocked various targets with a light and clever touch – including the White House.
Yet the best cut was when Tiffany Haddish and Maya Rudolph stepped on the stage with their killer heels in hands and talked about the agony of wearing it for long periods – the two comedians made the audience laughed heartily.
The other touching moment was when director Lee Unkrich made a speech about how they had the urge to make a movie about how beautiful Mexican culture just because Trump was elected. He called this victory from Coco – it won Best Animated Feature Film and Best Song, as a ‘love letter to Mexico’.
But the winner of the winner was the writer slash director, Jordan Peele. His debut film Get Out won a Best Screenplay in the 90th Oscars and he became the first black person to win this awards. A little fact: the director admitted that he stopped writing the film about 20 times because he thought it wasn’t going to work.
Bottom line, the event managed to deal with the US’ serious issues without sacrificing a sense of fun and irreverence.
