Netflix Responds to Backlash Over Prank Show With Gaten Matarazzo of ‘Stranger Things’

Netflix has defended its upcoming prank show Prank Encounters, starring Stranger Things‘ Gaten Matarazzo, after an online backlash.
In its initial press release, Netflix had revealed that every episode of the new show pranks “two complete strangers who each think they’re starting their first day at a new job,” a premise deemed by some online to be in poor taste in an era of unstable employment.
Netflix has ordered eight episodes of Prank Encounters, an epic hidden-camera prank show hosted and executive produced by Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo. Now, Netflix has issued a statement to UK newspaper Metro clarifying what the show is actually about: “The pranks in Prank Encounters are spooky, supernatural, and over the top, and everyone had a great time. All participants came in with the expectation this was a one-day, hourly gig and everyone got paid for their time.”
