The luxury brand label, Prada welcomes the addition of the new co-creative director, Raf Simmons.
Starting on April 2, the Belgian fashion designer, Raf Jan Simons is said to be joining Miuccia Prada as the co-creative of the Prada label, and his joining to the team will most likely put the questions of Ms. Prada’s successor to rest. The collaboration between Simons and Prada will officially unveil for Spring-Summer through Milan Fashion Week in September.
This alpha alliance between Simons and Prada has always been rumored for months, before they finally announced the partnership at a press conference at Prada headquarters on the last day of Milan Fashion Week. Both parties have known each other since 2005, and according to Simons as quoted from The Guardian, “a business can do super, super good without having creatives or, to add to that, without strong creatives. It’s not the main reason we are doing this, but we do believe collaborating between creatives can reposition, also, that aspect of the whole business.”
These two, however have always been aligned with each other’s vision in the fashion business, as Prada coming with “thinking fashion since 1913,” while Simon’s going with “I don’t want to show clothes, I want to show my attitude, my past, present and future.” Thus, as they share many things in common, from culture, to art of fashion, this brand-new teamwork is seen to be a promising project between both Prada and Simmons.
