Every year, the music industry strived their best both in music and videos. This year, there are some exceptional music video that we couldn’t stop looking at; some Easter eggs or extraordinary execution on the video are also a plus point that makes the video included in our picks. Here are some of the best music videos of 2018!
Apes**t – The Carters
Happening at the Louvre, this is an exquisite music video fit for the King and Queen of Carters. They even won MTV Video Music Award for Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography last August. Why, you may ask? The location itself is rich, and classic. Fashion styling on every single individuals in the video is definitely major (those matching suits, I mean), the choreography is another amazing part of the video. And this video shows how after decades, hip-hop now is a mainstream culture and represented by hip-hop royal itself in a proud and glorious realization.
This Is America – Childish Gambino
Another startling piece of art by none other Childish Gambino. Dissecting urgent critical pieces, such as how everyday citizens are murdered in the hands of a gun. At first you see Childish Gambino dances around and suddenly he pulls out a gun and shoot people point blank, first are the choirs. This highlights how the reality of U.S and it’s neglected gun violence epidemic.
Thank U, Next – Ariana Grande
On November 30, Ariana just dropped her highly anticipated “Thank U , Next” music video. The wonderful thing is she reenacted the most classic movies in 2000s such as Mean Girls, Legally Blonde, 13 Going on 30, and Bring It On. You will also see Ariana’s Victorious friend in the video. Major cameo by Kris Jenner as Regina George’s Mom, and easter egg when Ari mention a reference of her ex Pete Davidson’s BDE, this video is a work of a genius.
After the Storm – Kali Uchis ft. Tyler the Creator
60’s wonderland starring the inimitable Kali Uchis. The funky visual of the video itself is unique. Small details such as floating birds and Kali’s lush, orchid-riddles blowout are icing on a very sweet cake.
God’s Plan – Drake
The video is directed by 22 year-old Karena Evans. In the video you can see Drake surprised a Miami grocery shoppers with more than $175,000 worth of goods, gave out students of University of Miami scholarship money for college, handed kids toys and parents cash, all those happy faces got people everywhere blub into tears.
