Another preview of 88rising’s next project.
Rich Brian and Chung Ha are linking up for a new visual and single in support of 88rising‘s forthcoming studio album Head in the Clouds II. Known as “These Nights,” the pair’s aforementioned record serves as the follow-up to Head in the Clouds II‘s NIKI-propelled lead single, “Indigo,” while its visual component was put together by director Michael LaBurt. Executive produced by Joji, 88rising’s Head in the Clouds II LP will also feature contributions from Higher Brothers, Dumbfoundead, August 08, Keith Ape, Lexie Liu, Don Krez and others.
Speaking to Billboard about the narrative and theme of “These Nights,” Rich Brian reveals that the concept for the track was sparked by a conversation with iPhone’s Siri program. “After a while I tried to flirt with her to see how she would respond,” he shares with Billboard. “And I started thinking of the future when you can have relationships with robots, that’s how I wanted this song to feel.”
Opening up about working with Chunga Ha for “These Nights,” Brian also tells Billboard that working with her was “very easy,” noting that unpredictable, surprising collaborations like this and working with artists outside of his traditional genre-boundaries are some of his personal-favorite parts about making music for a living. “We do come from very different scenes but this song with the combination of trap drums and the ’80s sounds gives it such a timeless feel,” Brian adds. “I think it’s the perfect song for both of us to jump on.”
