Monday, February 17, 2020
Chairperson of APPMI and President of IFW, Poppy Dharsono enlightened Tales of the Equator – Treasure of the Magnificent Borneo is the theme chosen by APPMI to elevate the culture of the Dayak, Kutai and Banjar tribes from Kalimantan.
Some of the collections of designers who will be performing at IFW 2020 were introduced at the #RoadtoIFW2020 Friends & Media Gathering event. Among them are Warwick Purser, Poppy Dharsono, Naniek Rachmat, Misan Kopaka, Julie Kaimuddin, Hattaco by Rani Hatta, Wahyo Abraham, Merah Chumaero, Ida Royani, Dana Duriyatna, Vini Alya Hapsari, Katherine Sumanto, and Aam Hamada.
For the ninth time the biggest fashion and cultural performance in the country, the Indonesia Fashion Week (IFW) 2020 is ready to be held on 1-5 April 2020 at the Jakarta Convention Center. The Indonesian Fashion Designers and Entrepreneurs Association (APPMI) again chose Kalimantan as a source of inspiration for offerings to the world.
“This theme is APPMI’s real commitment to support the progress and development of the promotion on Indonesia’s cultural treasures. Kalimantan is an area that is known to have a very rich culture, as if it has never been used to inspire the fashion industry,” Poppy said in Road to IFW 2020 press conference at Plataran Hutan Kota, Jakarta.
In addition, to support the sustainable fashion movement, APPMI is working with the Indonesia Global Compact Network (IGCN) which is an alliance of the United Nations. According to Poppy, IFW and IGCN will also make a campaign for the environmentally friendly movement which is now also one of the commitments of the fashion industry in the country.
In this # RoadtoIFW2020 Friends & Media Gathering event that was held in the City Forest by Plataran, Poppy also introduced young talents who played a major role in bringing new colors to IFW 2020; that is, Jacky Suharto as the director, Shinta Handamari as the creative director and Ajeng Svastiari as the Stylist in making the IFW 2020 campaign video.
The participation of foreign designers is expected to provide new inspiration for young designers in Indonesia. In addition to fashion designers, other international guests who will take part as models in the closing ceremony of IFW 2020 are the grandchildren of Ferdinand de Lesseps, the builder of the Suez canal, Alexandre de Lesseps.
