2020 marks as ELLE 75th Anniversary. For this milestone, it continues to honor its legacy of empowering women to live life to the fullest, of helping them to navigate their daily lives, and of bringing about their daily (r)evolutions. What started out as a mere magazine, ELLE has now evolved into a lifestyle and fashion brand that embodies Parisian style and attitude.
Hélène Lazareff, a Russian-born, Paris-raised journalist, founded the legendary ELLE Magazine on November 21st, 1945. At that time, the French capital had been ravaged by war, and Lazareff had returned to her beloved city after several years in New York City, working in the media industry. The successful writer dreamt of a women’s magazine whose key editorial approach was to open women’s minds to diverse trends throughout the world and provide them with exclusive access to the fashion and beauty industries. Lazareff achieved her goal, and ELLE — a magazine for women, run by a woman — was born.
Since the first ELLE ready-to-wear collection was launched in Japan in the ‘80s, the brand has gone on to portray the Parisian state of mind to its wearers worldwide, proving that you don’t need to live in the City of Lights to be chic and effortless—with ELLE, you really can be #ParisianAnywhere.
