The Always Busy, Always Consistent DJ Winky Wiryawan

It’s not easy to make it in the showbiz industry, but it’s even harder to stay relevant for so long. Winky Wiryawan is the prime exhibit A of the latter, this actor slash DJ first became well known thanks to the iconic role as Ferdi in the hit horror flick Jelangkung in 2001, directed by the infamous Rizal Mantovani and Jose Poernomo.

Nuryaendra Irwindi, better known as DJ Winky, couldn’t just leave the music in him. In terms of music, to Letter F, he admits that there is no genre that is bad, but there are only preferences. Aside from being a DJ, Winky is currently taking a guitar lesson for classic and contemporary jazz.

What are you up to these days?

“I have quite a number of ongoing projects right now, both in music as well as acting. I’m currently active on three different bands: Rahasia Intelijen, Fun on a Weekend, and a pop band Morsh. By the way, Morsh just released an album called Major Minor on November 8, the songs are in English and Indonesian. Fun on a Weekend also just recently finished our latest project with, in collaborating with Bams in a song called 24 MOJO. We played together in 24 hours in 56 different spots as a part of the charity donation for the forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan. Also, in my upcoming movie Jeritan Malam will also be released on December 12.”

That’s one packed schedule, how do you even maintain them all?
“It’s quite tricky to be very honest, but everything can go well as long as I prioritize. For instance, in the next three months, I’ll be focusing on my movie before moving onto another project. I can push myself to do everything in one go, but I don’t think I can give my all.”
You’ve taken some time before officially going back to acting, what was your consideration on coming back, script wise and whatnot?

“There are a lot of things that I consider, and one of them is the script itself. There are two scripts that I found very admirable and I haven’t found any other scripts that are so well-written like ‘Mengejar Matahari’ and ‘Berbagi Suami.’ Apart from the script, the cast and the production team are the most important elements that I also consider. As well as the character that I’ll be playing because if it’s someone that I haven’t portrayed before, it’ll definitely be a new challenge for me and I’m certainly up for that. As for the horror movie, I didn’t plan it to be my comeback in acting, because I played in Lorong before Jeritan Malam. These two movies happened in a short period of times, and I chose Jeritan Malam because I like the script and the cast. My close friend, whom I see him as my own brother, Junot also plays in the movie, and Prisia Nasution who blew many with her acting also become the reason.”
