There are some questions about guys that women find hard to understand, and one of them is their silence.
Guy has their own way to handle conflict in relationship, some have a tendency to be vocal with the problems and discuss it with the partner, but some choose to build the “stonewall” between him and the partner with his silence, or we can call it by the silent treatment.
Thanks to the culture and stereotype, men are always portrayed to be strong, and independent while in reality men are equally human like all women are. But those stereotypes create an understanding that when men don’t appear so, that means they are weak, scanty, and definitely not manly enough. Therefore, when they have some situations many of them prefer to keep them to themselves instead. Another reason why men like to give silent treatment is because for them it’s equal as keeping a peace. Though it’s quiet hard to understand but, there’s a chance that they just don’t actually know how to communicate their feelings out and they don’t want any argument. So, they decided to remain silent as the alternative.
Silent treatment is a huge loss in a relationship, it decreases the trust and diminishes the feelings of intimacy.
According to Kipling Williams, a Professor of Psychology at Purdue University, ‘Excluding and ignoring people, such as giving them the cold shoulder or silent treatment, are used to punish people, and they may not realize the emotional impact that they caused from it.’ Guys who likes to give his silence to his partner usually won’t even let the person knows what they did wrong, and all they do is avoid the talk and let the other partner to do all the work.
