#Throwback: The 60s Fever with Jihane Almira

During the late 60s to the early 70s, the music industry had the most vibrant scene ever thanks to the disco fever. The 60s was actually the best era for music, from bands, the globes was invaded by the British, from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin to many more. Going against these vibes was the counterculture part by the means of disco music, enters Bee Gees, Gloria Gaynor, The Jackson 5, Motown, and many other.

bomagz-jihaneThe influence naturally sinked in the fashion world, where it’s all about bold eye makeup, including liner and lashes, mini skirt, bikini, and go-go boots and the bumpy hair are extremely popular back in the 60s. Fashion icon and also muse of artist Andy Warhol, Twiggy, became the most copied style. And mixing all these different elements in the 60s fever photoshoot of Letter F is the lovely Jihane Almira Chedid.

At a glance, one would thought that she was Kylie Jenner. Or perhaps Vanessa Hudgeons? The 16-year-old model is all about vibing the disco fever, and opening up about her activities and hobbies, Letter F finally managed to get to know this wonderful millennial.

Before we ask further questions, could you tell us about yourself.

”Well, I’m still 16 years old and I’m still in school. However, I’m in a homeschool though. I have three days of homeschool and four free days. And during my free days, I usually have fashion design courses, photoshoots, andauditions. So, yeah, for now it’s basically school, fashion courses and photoshoots.”

How did you get involved in the modeling industry?

“When I was 11, I joined a cover girl competition in Aneka magazine and I was surprised that I won the second place. And looking back, it was funny because people believed that I was 14 years old because I was so tall. After winning the competition, I went back and forth Semarang-Jakarta for photoshoots, and then my mom suggested me to move to Jakarta. And at the time I thought (modeling) did not dominate my entire schedule, so why should I move? Until a friend of mine advised me to join Gadis Sampul 2014. I was 14 that time, and the age range was suitable for me. And so I was one of the 20 finalists, though I wasn’t the winner, but I gained many experiences from it. And my modeling career officially began since then, I won’t be where I am right now if it wasn’t for it.”

You mentioned about fashion design courses, have you always wanted to be a fashion designer?

”Yes! It was my dream since I was little. Growing up, I often hang out with my friends, who are mostly boys and they are athletes. I felt like I didn’t act my age back then, seeing that all my girlfriends looked more mature. And since I often hang out with them (athletes friends), it made me want to be one. So I took courses and joined competitions. Until one day I fell and almost broke my tail bone, it quite traumatized me and made me think that being an athlete was not my passion in the future.”

“I finally started doing modelling, and I noticed that I love looking at the details of the clothes. Curiousity consumed me and I started to learn drawing. After all, my mom advised me to learn more about it because she saw that (fashion) is my real passion instead of being an athlete. And now I’m getting into it.”

Any favorite fashion designers?

“I always look up to Roberto Cavalli and Thierry Mugler–and it’s because of Beyonce. Queen Bee loves to wear their collection and they’re Beyonce’s top designers list.”

Between school and modeling work, how do you maintain your schedule?

“I prefer homeschool. When I was in public school, I skipped classes a lot. Many considerations were thought and my mom said if I wanted to pursue my career, it would be hard to be in the public school once I moved to Jakarta. That’s why we decided for homeschooling instead. Now it’s easier for me to maintain my time.”

Okay you probably heard it a lot and we just had to say it, you look like Kylie Jenner!

“Well I used to have short hair, it was when my hair grew longer that my friend told me that I look a lot like Kylie Jenner. At that time, Kylie got his lips done and I was like ‘who is she again?’, because I didn’t know her at all. Then I searched about her and I was like ‘Oh, Okay’.”

“As the time goes by, everytime I posted photo on Instagram, there’s always a comment saying how I look like Kylie and it spread like a wildfire.”

Any other dreams you’d like to achieve?

”For now, only those two, but I don’t know what I’ll be in the future. Maybe I’m gonna be a business woman or entrepeneur.”

What’s your favorite thing to do when you have a spare time?

”I like working out and sports stuff. From volley ball, basketball, soccer, and anything related to sports. Oh, I was in a band before when I was younger, I was the vocalist.”

Name one thing about you that would surprise people?

”I don’t really open up to people easily.”

Jihane in 3 words?

”Weird, quiet, wise. That’s a contradictive, eh? (laughed) I can’t come up with the last one. But one thing fo sure is I am a weird girl. And people always said that I was so much different from the pictures. So yeah, dont judge me by the pictures. (laughed)

Now let’s talk about the modeling industry, which model inspires you the most?

”Adriana Lima, she has a strong character. She looks gorgeous in every photoshoot. And I adore her because she really started from the bottom, she really worked hard for it. I read a lot about her and her career, and I appreciate her history. Nowadays being a model is easy if you have the connection and an x-factor behind them. And for me, Adriana really tried from the bottom, even Karlie Kloss and another previous Victoria’s angels, they really worked hard for it and I appreciate it a lot.”

When it comes to style, what’s your go-to style?

”I’m more of a tee and jeans kind of person. I like to wear anything that is simple and basic. I don’t care if people telling me I’m so basic, I dont really think what people say about me. I mean why pretend to be someone else if you can just enjoy yourself entirely.”
