Coming back to her music root, the ex-Indonesian Idol Junior contestant, Baila Fauri is making her return as a singer with a single Eye to Eye in 2019. From YouTube FanFest to SHVR Ground Festival, this 18-year-old beauty started performing from one stage to another and definitely garnered the much deserved attention.
So how has the transition been—from the then Indonesian Idol Junior contestant to basically a hot bae?
“I started singing since I was really young, joined some plays at school and that’s how they found out that I’m capable in singing. I had a professional training in singing, then my coach offered me to join Indonesian Idol Junior in 2014 and, surprisingly, I made it to the big 5. Few years later, I found another opportunity with my current label, Seven Music ID. So I started composing songs, and last year I finally released my first single, Eye To Eye.”
What was the story behind ‘Eye to Eye’?
“Before I wrote the song, I found the beats first. I felt the beats, and it made me to shape how the music would play out. To be honest, I’m not much of a poet so I just wrote what I feel. When I wrote the song, I was at my lowest point due to a long-distance relationship. Through the song, I’d like to tell people who are in the same shoes with me that you’re not alone and you’ll make it.”
Some time ago you were spotted doing busking at MRT, how was it? What do you think about busking in the public places?
“My friend had the idea and I basically said ‘alright let’s do it’. The first time I got there, it was hella nerve-wrecking, and I think I honestly still have that anxiety of performing in front of a small crowd, let alone in front of thousand people. But it was definitely so fun!”
You’re also into rap, which not a lot of people are aware of, is there any possibilities that you’ll make your own rap songs?
“I do love hiphop and RnB so much, I hope some time in the future I release my own rap songs. And I think I’ll start with a slow rap that lot of people dig, so I’ll take it from there. But, yeah, I love rap songs a lot, my favorite rapper is Ski Mask the Slump God.”
You’ll be turning 19 this year, any wishes or goals that you still want to achieve as a singer?
“I want to be better than I am today, I wish to focus more on my music other than having fun. Though balance is good, but I need to focus on my singing more, and hopefully I can release an album soon, too.”
So what’s your next project?
“Well, I’m working on a song that’s a lot different from ‘Eye to Eye’. It’s more on the acoustic side and again it’s also based on true story—it’s a mellow song and that’s all I can say about it.”
