Lunch is the time we wait the most of the day, but then we often get overly tired and sleepy right after lunch.

  • Digestion Cycle
Our body needs fuel to survive where we can only get it from food. The food that we consume then will be destructed into energy which involves our digestive cycle. Through the cycling, the hormones in our bodies are released, and some of them can cause sleepiness, and they are serotonin and melatonin. These two neurotransmitters have a calming effect that can lead to the feeling of sleepy.
  • Diet
The amount of your diet and what you consume are also the reasons for your sleepiness. Carbohydrate containing food can boost the serotonin and melatonin, which is explained above. Also, if you eat a large meal and you have certain allergy or intolerance, they may also contribute to your drowsiness.
Then what can you do about it?
  1. Do not skip breakfast
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and by eating breakfast you can prevent getting tired during the day.
  1. Snacking
Keeping your blood sugar level by snacking is important because it gives you steady blood sugar level and gives you more energy throughout the day.
  1. Move your body
When you move your body, you push oxygen get through your brain, and if your brain get enough amount of oxygen, it won’t tell your body that you need more by sleeping. So, move your body if you get sleepy so you can let the oxygen penetrate through your brain.
