Why G Eazy, When You Got Adrian Khalif

Adrian Khalif Akbar Thamrin won his first ever AMI award through his debut single “Made in Jakarta” exactly three years ago, and won another award in the following year for his first Indonesian language song called “Flawless/Merona”. Been creating a buzz with his songs, Adrian now came back with the newest single, “Take Care” featuring GAC’s Cantika. His respect for hip hop started when he was a kid, Adrian Khalif has put Kanye West as his role model for his music career.

It’s already your third single since your debut in 2017, how do you feel to finally come back with a new music?
“I feel great I feel happy, I’m so excited about my third single, it’s called Take Care, it’s featuring Cantika Abigail. So far the response has been very good and I just released the music video last January 3rd and it already hit 200.000 streams on Spotify already so, fingers crossed to what’s gonna happen next.”
Any particular reason in choosing Cantika? What is the story behind the song?
“The story is actually about taking care of our other half, and I feel like in terms of vocal and what we listen to, Cantika and I have a lot of things in common, we have the same references basically. Also, during the song production, I found it very organic in a way because we have a lot of things in common that made us click, professional wise.”
Difference between Take Care and Merona?
“Well, language wise, it’s different. Merona/Flawless is in Indonesian, whereas Take Care is in English. Though essentially, I don’t feel like there was any other differences since I worked with the same producer as I did before, Marcus Steffiano from Barasuara, and in terms of writing or recording process, it was all the same.”

Your ultimate music role model?

“My plan for 2019 is to release an album soon, just like Kanye West, my role model. He released his first album when he was 26 and now I’m already at that age although I’ll be turning 27 in June, so I feel like I gotta release an album soon before I turned 27.”

How did you turn your game into a rapper in the first place? Has this always been your passion?
“I’ve always been interested in hip hop, I used to live in New York when I was a kid, and the only thing I did there was rapping in the canteen. Eminem and Kanye have become my favorites since then.”
As a performer, do you have your own lucky charm that you bring wherever you go on stage?
“I always wear black socks, like if I wear other socks I’d get nervous easily. I actually rotate my four type of socks, my adidas socks, my 424 socks, and my 1032cs. Everything’s gotta be black, I think it’s like my own thing, I guess. To pump myself more, I sometimes like to inhale aromatheraphy before going on stage, it kinda makes me more relax, I don’t do it all the time though.”
Bucket list as a rapper?
“My bucket list as a singer is to win a Grammy, sstill miles away, but yeah Grammy would’ve been a dream comes true.”
